Historical, Iconic Motto:

"A.E.I.O.U."

Acronym: "Austriae est imperare orbi universo"

Acronym: "Alles Erdreich ist Österreich untertan"

(Translated from Latin and German: "All the world is subject to Austria")
Key Aspects of the A.E.I.O.U. Motto: Historical, iconic motto of the House of Habsburg:

The motto A.E.I.O.U. was coined by Emperor Frederick III. Its most common interpretation is Austriae est imperare orbi universo (Latin) or Alles Erdreich ist Österreich untertan (German), meaning “All the world is subject to Austria.”

Origin:
The five vowels were used by Emperor Frederick III (1415–1493) to sign buildings, tableware, and official documents.

Interpretations:
While “All the world is subject to Austria” is the most famous, there are over 300 interpretations, including Austria est imperio optime unita (“Austria is the empire best united”).

Usage:
The motto is still found today in the Federal Chancellery of Austria and is the official motto of the Theresian Military Academy.

Modern Context:
Austria has no modern official motto, though a 1951 proposal suggested:
Austria Europae Imago, Onus, Unio
(“Austria: Image, Burden, Union of Europe”)

Modern Suggestion (1951) Motto:

"Austria Europae Imago, Onus, Unio"

(Translated from Latin: "Austria: Image, Burden, Union of Europe")

Tourism Slogan:

„Ankommen und neue Energie tanken“.

(Translated from German: "Arrive and Revive")
