An ISO code is a standardized, internationally recognized abbreviation, number, or character set created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). These codes uniquely identify countries, currencies, languages, or technical standards, reducing ambiguity in global communication, data, and trade.
U+1F1E6 U+1F1F9 The motto A.E.I.O.U. was coined by Emperor Frederick III. Its most common interpretation is Austriae est imperare orbi universo (Latin) or Alles Erdreich ist Österreich untertan (German), meaning “All the world is subject to Austria.”
Origin:
The five vowels were used by Emperor Frederick III (1415–1493) to sign buildings, tableware, and official documents.
Interpretations:
While “All the world is subject to Austria” is the most famous, there are over 300 interpretations, including Austria est imperio optime unita (“Austria is the empire best united”).
Usage:
The motto is still found today in the Federal Chancellery of Austria and is the official motto of the Theresian Military Academy.
Modern Context:
Austria has no modern official motto, though a 1951 proposal suggested:
Austria Europae Imago, Onus, Unio
